The town of Ponteix is located on Highway 13, the Red Coat Trail in southwestern Saskatchewan. The Red Coat Trail is the historical route taken once by the North-West Mounted Police men on their way to Canadian West.

Ponteix was formed by a bilingual community of 600 people just over. Several types of services are available for residents and visitors. The Centre Culturel Royer offers some of its services in the two languages (French and English). An Educational Centre in early childhood, a French school and an anthropological and paleontological museum have their premises in the Centre Culturel Royer.
